The effect of obesity on children

In recent time, there has been an increase in the rate obesity among children. This has equally brought about obesity related conditions among children. There are so many ways obesity affect children, mentally, psychologically physically and health wise. The most common ones include...


EARLY MATURATION
Obesity can cause early development of puberty in girls. A condition that can increase the likelihood of menstrual irregularities. This is associated with an increase in the distribution of fat to the upper body. It increases the risk of cardiovascular problems.


SLEEPING DISORDER
Obesity can cause sleeping disorder in children. They experience intervals of cessation of breathing that last for about 10 seconds or more. This is called 'sleep apnea'. During these periods, oxygen levels in the blood falls. This causes restlessness at night.


CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASES
Obesity in children and poor eating habits leads to increase in the level of blood cholesterol. This is one of the major causes of heart diseases and premature deaths. When you are overweight or obsessed, your blood pressure rises, putting more strain on the heart.

PSYCHOLOGICAL PROBLEMS
Obesed children are often teased about their size and rejected by their peers. They don't often in sports or other activities that require alot of movement because they are not always able to move as fast as others. This can bring about isolation, rejection and depression.


Being overweight or obesed leads to a variety of health, mental, physical and psychological issues.
However introducing a good and healthy eating and healthy living habits to your child(ren) from infant and gradually exposing them to exercises will help in checking their weight from an early stage. This will also help them live a healthy life.
